At SunnyMac Solar, sustainability isn’t just about harnessing the power of the sun—it’s about investing in cleaner, smarter, and more connected communities. That’s why we’re proud to announce our partnership with the Downtown Berlin Revitalization Corporation (DBRC) to repurpose our used solar panel pallets through a creative placemaking initiative in Berlin, New Jersey.

Each week, SunnyMac is left with upwards of 60 wooden pallets used for protecting solar panels during transit. Rather than send these durable materials to waste, we’ve partnered with Downtown Berlin Revitalization Corporation (DBRC) to repurpose them through the creation of park “30 Spot.” A temporary public park designed to bring life, culture, and community to Route 30 in Berlin Borough of New Jersey.

These pallets, sturdy and weather-resistant for up to four years, will form the physical foundation for park seating & staging, garden fencing, and more at the pop-up park. Our team is providing both the materials and the transportation to help make this innovative reuse project possible.

Meet 30 Spot: A Park With Purpose

30 Spot will be a pop-up park for the community. The park’s temporary use makes it especially innovative, as it creates immediate community impact while preserving the space for future redevelopment, offering a flexible, sustainable model for other towns to follow. Scheduled construction of 30 Spot will come this summer. 30 Spot plans to host a lineup of family activities to the community, including a summer concert series, a large autumn festival, and food trucks fairs. The park is designed to be:

  • Kid-and pet-friendly
  • Artistically designed with upcycled materials
  • Can hold up to 1,000 attendees
  • A platform for local businesses and nonprofits

Why It Matters

This partnership is about more than recycling pallets, it’s about rethinking how we can build and sustain local communities. By transforming industrial byproducts into the backbone of a vibrant public space, we’re demonstrating how environmental responsibility and community revitalization can go hand in hand. The “30 Spot” project will activate an underutilized space in the heart of Berlin, creating a safe, inclusive, destination for residents and visitors alike.

This partnership embodies some of the core values we believe in at SunnyMac:

  • Sustainability: Reusing pallets that would otherwise go to waste helps us lower our carbon footprint and reduce landfill contributions.
  • Community Investment: Supporting local nonprofits like DBRC helps bring communities together, uplift small businesses, and reimagine public space.
