Maryland Solar Incentives

We made it easy to learn about MD solar incentives available to you! Please review them below and contact us with any questions. One of our Solar and Roofing Advisors will be happy to discuss each program in detail with you.

  • Federal Solar Tax Credit -Homeowners can claim 30% of their solar installation costs as a tax credit on their federal income taxes. This incentive is available nationwide and significantly reduces the upfront cost of solar systems.
  • Maryland Solar Access Program – Beginning in early 2025, this program offers grants up to $7,500 for eligible households, calculated at $750 per kilowatt (kW) of direct current solar capacity. The program is income-qualified, targeting households with incomes not exceeding 150% of the statewide median.
  • Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) – For every megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity generated by a solar system, homeowners earn one SREC, which can be sold to utility companies, providing additional income.
  • Property Tax Exemption – Solar energy systems are exempt from state and local real property taxes, meaning installing solar panels won’t increase property taxes despite adding value to the home.
  • Sales Tax Exemption – Purchases of residential solar energy systems are exempt from Maryland’s sales and use tax, reducing the overall cost of installation.
  • Harford County Property Tax Credit for Solar – Homeowners can receive a tax credit equal to 100% of the total real property taxes on the host structure for one year, up to $2,500 per system.
  • Net Metering – A billing system that allows solar homeowners to send excess electricity to the grid in exchange for credits, which can be used to offset future energy costs.
